News from ESSEC USA Community

Cher Alumni,

Happy New Year to all of you! More than ever, the strength of the community is needed to face new challenges and current difficulties. The Essec community is here to support you and be your main source of networking not only in New York but also in Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco or Miami. Abroad, the Essec International Clubs (EIC) are getting stronger from Peking to London and Germany to Italy (go to the end of the newsletter for links to the active EIC members). Wherever you are, you will find an Essec contact.

And this year, Essec USA has a main challenge... to transform the Newsmaker panel in a successfully yearly event. We have to thank those who dedicate their time to make this happen.

At the same time, we think that all those efforts in the chapters, in New York and Paris, should be directed principally to those who care about the community. For this reason, we have decided to send the newsletter to only the people registered in Paris. If you have received this first 2003 newsletter, it means that you care about the Essec community. We have to thank you for your constant support, and your commitment to all events.

Thank you for your past support, and enjoy the coming year.

Sincerely yours,
Christian Bétheuil (Essec 95)
VP Communications

Kellogg introduces corporate financial chats, Chicago

Kellogg University introduces two events this February, which they are extending to Essec alumni. The first is on February 5th -- a Fireside Chat at the Union Club with Don Callhan, head of inst. secs. marketing at Morgan Stanley; the other is on February 8th at JP Morgan Fleming Asset Management and is a Kellogg "continuing ed" session on derivatives. This event is a half-day Saturday event featuring a three hour discussion on derivatives by Kellogg's professor Bob McDonald, followed by a lunch and then a panel of speakers including Jerome Kenney from ML, Avi Nash from GS and Fred Krom from Morgan Stanley. We have some spots left and the school has agreed to let us upen this up to other alumni clubs.

New York Monthly Get-together - February 19

Join us on February 19 in New York to learn more about the “2nd Annual Newsmakers Panel” to happen on April 30. Our guest of honor will be Peter Craddick, senior vice president in the New York office of Fleishman-Hillard (www.fleishman.com), our new partner for our event 2003. We will give you the latest news about the event and you can ask all the questions you want on how to make the event a success, from volunteering to sponsoring. Let us know at (cbetheuil@essecusa.com) if you would prefer a simple bar (6:30) or a dinner (7:30). Location will be confirmed to all confirmed participants.

Event 2003

“Is the bottom line the bottom line?”... We finally agreed on the subject; how to get an international consensus on corporate ethics will be our focus for the evening. To lead this discussion, we will welcome Mr. Ugeux from the New York Stock Exchange and Mr. Tulin from Axa Financials. To support our sponsoring search, we have the strong support from Mr. Peter Craddick, Senior Vice President at Fleishman-Hillard. But we are already telling you too much and specific communication will come soon from our entire team. Nonetheless, don’t forget to book your agenda, and those of your friends, the movers and shakers of the business for April 30th at the Yale Club in New York. It’s an event you cannot miss!
