An internship, or practical training, is not something that is really known here, and your search should be conducted as if you were looking for a “Summer job”. That means be as professional as you can be. To help you, we have gathered a few tips in our “3 Steps Job Search” with the foreign students in mind.
Step 1 - Organize your ideas
The most important part in your search is to prepare a game plan, to research what you want to do. We help you organize your game plan. Strategize your next career move with the help of comprehensive summary reports on major companies and industries. Includes company histories, culture, and hiring practices plus expert advice on job hunting.
Step 2 - Write an American resume
Too often, foreign students and even people in the middle of their career consider that writing a resume for a position in the USA requires only translating a French resume. It’s a big error as you will find in this section ….
The resume is THE most important to have, but it’s also the most difficult to write.
A few tips when you write your resume ….
- Your resume is your best asset if you think about it. The recruiter wants to understand who you are, and what you have accomplished.
- Take each of your experience, and analyze what you have done, and what this represents for someone who does not know you. Don’t say “was a product manager” but that you ”successfully launched a product that was #1 in the market after 3 months”.
- Don’t hesitate to cut on the descriptions of what you did if you feel it does not add to your experience … you will have the time to explain when you meet the recruiter.
- Consider a highlight section. Either you know what you want and you put it in a few words, either you prefer to put forward who you are and explain in a few words. This sentence will catch the eye of the recruiter and will be a winner.
- Don’t put your personal information like your age, your sex, … they are not supposed to make selection based on those elements.
- The French education does not mean that much, so don’t loose precious space to speak about your 2 years of preparation school … you have an MBA, or a BBA, and that’s the most important.
