Interview of the Month - April 2003:
Alexandre Koiransky (EPSCI 2003)
Q: What is your background?
I am a 4th year student at EPSCI, and will graduate in December 2003. Hired by Rossignol S.A. (number one ski manufacturer throughout the world) in January 2001 for an apprenticeship, I have worked for 9 months (still 5 to go) in the American distribution subsidiary located in Burlington, Vermont. This two-year program is a unique experience because it has constituted a balance between an American working experience in sales/marketing and a Spanish period of studies in Madrid (ICADE Business School).
I participated in the organization of the Salt Lake City Olympic Games, of the sales meetings and the trade shows; I spent time learning how to forecast the sales and the purchases for the subsidiary as well as working in sales and marketing with the product managers and salesmen. These are all valuable experiences which would make me an asset for French companies located in the US.
Q: Why did you decide to come and stay here?
Having spent my entire life in Paris, I have always thought that I needed a real challenge. Early in High School I knew I had to move away to strengthen my personality and to open my mind. I wanted to leave alone; I wanted to learn the American way. Today I know I made the right choice and I am now tracking new opportunities in the USA. I am willing to work hard, I have ambition for personal achievement and for the success of the company I will work for.
Q: What advice would you give to ESSEC graduates who would like to come to work here?
I would encourage them to make the choice of an American experience simply because the notion of work is far away from ours. Also don't forget to bring your cheese.
Q: How do you think your ESSEC background helped you to be where you are?
The EPSCI BBA is an excellent program based on a true commitment to offer its students a general knowledge in international business. We are taught good marketing and language skills. It is also to note that teachers like Mr. Nikolaeff are excellent guides for the students in their search for their future.
Q: What do you consider as your role in the ESSEC family?
I believe my present role is to promote the EPSCI program in the companies I will work for in the USA. In the near future, I want to spend my time and energy working for a company based in the United States. I believe in the strength of the American culture of work and that is why I will undertake all I can to stay there.
Thank you...
