Interview of the Month - August 2002:

Adeline Aleyat-Dupuis (ESSEC 2003)

Q: What is your background?

I am still a student at Essec and will graduate next year. I am not really a typical Essec student as I come from the literary prep classes of the lycee Louis-le-Grand (Hypokhagne and Khagne), and then integrated ESSEC' first year in 1999 (Admission sur Concours). So I'm one of this rare species who believe humanities and business can get along! As for my personal background, I was born and raised in Paris and went to high-school at the Ecole Alsacienne.

Q: Why did you decide to come and stay here?

I had been thinking of coming to New York City for an internship for a long time. I guess the city in itself is what first made me want to come here. Then having an experience in New York is an invaluable plus on a résumé of course! I had every reason to try and look for an internship here for my second six-month experience (as Essec now requires 18 months of professional experience; most students, like me, complete three six-month experiences in different companies). I really think having an international experience is extremely important and it's no news that the US is the best place to improve professional skills!

Q: What advice would you give to ESSEC graduates who would like to come to work here?

Prepare your stay a long time ahead: start looking for positions six months in advance but don't jump on the first offer! Visit the website www.essecusa.com, it's full of great advice!! Go through the Alumni repertory and email alumni who work in the industry you're interested in. Spend days and nights on the Internet browsing all the sites you can possibly think of and just send a lot of resumes out!

Q: How do you think your ESSEC background helped you to be where you are?

I worked as an intern for the Marketing Department within the International Division of The History Channel and A&E - I guess the marketing classes helped a bit, the professional experience gained during previous internships helped more and the flexibility we are taught at Essec helped A LOT to work in an international environment!

Q: What do you consider as your role in the ESSEC family?

Well...I would say my role is to help Essec become even more well-known wherever I go - this is one of the reasons why I helped Essec USA organize the first Newsmakers event and will work on the next one even though I am now back in France.

ESSEC is truly a family and the first thing about a family is to be able to rely on each other. I want to be able to help other students/alumni as much as I can, answer their queries about what I do if that's what they're interested in and always work to improve the School's image in France and abroad.

Thank you...
